This bonus room had good bones - vaulted ceilings, nice natural light, a solid layout. But the color just wasn't doing it any favors. The homeowner wanted something with more personality, and a deep navy accent wall against bright white was exactly the direction we went.

Before any paint touches the walls, we do the prep work right. Drop paper across the entire floor, blue tape on every trim edge, door frame, and window casing. It's not the exciting part, but it's what keeps the job looking clean when it's all said and done. Rushing that step is how you end up with paint on your carpet or bleed lines along your baseboards.

The accent wall on the vaulted end of the room is where the whole thing comes together. Getting a deep, even coat on an angled wall that tall takes patience and the right tools. No streaks, no roller marks - just a flat, rich finish that pulls the whole room together.

The rest of the walls stayed a soft white, which was the right call. It keeps the space feeling open and lets that dark wall do its job without overwhelming the room. That contrast is what gives a space like this real character.

A color update like this doesn't require a full renovation. Sometimes one well-executed decision - like committing to a bold accent wall - is all it takes to make a room feel intentional and finished.
